Welcome to Self-financed Universities in Maharashtra
The guidelines for establishing Private Universities were released by UGC in 2003 - University Grants Commission (Establishment of and Maintenance of Standards in Private Universities) Regulations, 2003.
The concept of establishment of Self-financed Universities (SFUs) in Maharashtra was initiated in the year 2011.
Model guidelines for establishing SFUs were issued on 29th May, 2013 after approval of the State Cabinet.
It was resolved that each SFU shall be established through a separate State Act to further following Objectives:
To create higher levels of intellectual abilities and to create & deploy new educational programs to promote creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship
To establish state-of-the-art facilities for education & development
To create centers of excellence for research and development in Science & Technology and Socio Economic development
To carry out teaching and research and offer continuing quality education program
To provide professional & development services to the industry, public organizations and society
To establish links, collaborations and partnerships with other higher education & research institutions in India and abroad
20 SFU Acts have been passed by the State Legislature till date and 19 SFUs are operationalized.
